ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers) is a US organization devoted to advancing HVAC/R. The ASHRAE Standard 15 documentation establishes procedures for operating equipment and systems when using refrigerants- which are compiled in ASHRAE Standard 34 along with naming and safety classifications based on toxicity and flammability data. The CSA Group (formerly the Canadian Standards Association) has produced the CSA B52 2018 Edition to minimize the risk of personal injury by providing minimum requirements for the design, construction, installation, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical refrigeration systems and volatile direct refrigeration systems. The BSI (British Standards Institute) document BS EN 378-1:2016 relates to refrigerating systems and heat pumps providing safety and environmental requirements, basic requirements, definitions, classification, and selection criteria. The standard is intended to minimize possible hazards to persons, property, and the environment from refrigerating systems and refrigerants.
